Mongolia: The Next Resource Frontier
The Digital Roadshow of the German Mining & Resources Network continues its journey around the globe. We start 2025 by visiting Mongolia, a resource-rich yet distant country situated between two giants - Russia and China.
The mining sector dominates the economic sector and continues to account for around a fifth of Mongolia's gross domestic product, a quarter of a percent of budget revenues and around 90% of total exports.
Mongolia holds promising rare earth element (REE) deposits, crucial for high-tech industries. With rising global demand, especially from China and South Korea, Mongolia could become a significant player in the REE market.
The country's rich copper deposits, along with untapped uranium resources, could strengthen its position as a major contributor to the global supply chain in the age of clean energy.
However, Mongolia's vast terrain and limited transport networks hinder efficient raw material logistics, while many regions lack stable and affordable power. Frequent changes in mining laws and policies create an unpredictable environment for investors, all of which hold back the mining sector's growth.
That is why building strong community relationships and adopting sustainable practices are vital for long-term success.
For those interested in the Mongolian mining market, we encourage you to ask questions during the event. Our experts will be available to provide insights and address your queries.
Registration is open till Feb 5th, 23:30 CET. Participation is free of charge.
