Unlocking West Africa’s Mineral Wealth: Opportunities and Challenges in a Dynamic Landscape
The Digital Roadshow of the German Mining Competence Centers goes on around the globe. Our last stop before Christmas vacation will be the sunny Western Afrika.
You are invited to attend the webinar on this dynamic and resource-rich region. Let's explore the vast mineral wealth of this area, where gold stands out as the most significant commodity, particularly in countries like Ghana, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Mali. We will also delve into other key minerals such as bauxite, diamonds, iron ore, manganese, and the emerging interests in uranium as well as nickel, and cobalt, which are citicially important for the evolving green industries and decarbonization.
As the global demand for critical minerals like lithium, copper, and rare earth elements grows, driven by the electric vehicle and renewable energy sectors, West Africa is poised to become a crucial player in the global supply chain. We’ll discuss how countries like Ghana are gaining traction in lithium production and the potential for the broader region to support clean energy initiatives.
However, the mining sector in West Africa faces significant challenges, including political instability, inadequate infrastructure, and environmental concerns. These issues impact investment and operational efficiency, hindering the full realization of the region’s mining potential.
Join us as we navigate these opportunities and challenges, providing valuable insights and fostering discussions on the future of mining in West Africa.
Registration is open till Dec 9th, 23:30 CET. Participation is free of charge.
